GENE HOPKINS COLLECTION OF ARCHERY HISTORY
Bowhunting is definitely a passion for Gene. Having
taken over 100 big game animals in his 40 years of hunting, Gene
also believes strongly in giving back to the sport that has been
his lifelong obsession. A Past-President of the Indiana Bowhunters
Association, past member of the Board of Directors for the National
Bowhunter Education Foundation, and Historian for the Archery Hall
of Fame, Gene feels that his most significant achievement is that
he has been a Master Instructor for the NBEF here in Indiana for
over 22 years.
The Hopkins Collection of Archery History keeps the memories of
bowhunting’s pioneers alive for the education and enjoyment
of bowhunters present and future. Without the effort and perseverance
that these founding fathers gave, we would not enjoy the wonders
of bowhunting as we know it today. In this spirit, the collection
will introduce you to a walk in the woods with these pioneers of
bowhunting, including the following treasures of history:
Personal Bowhunting Items from the Pioneers – Fred Bear,
Howard Hill, Ishi, Saxton Pope, Art Young, Ben Pearson, Glen St.
Charles, Doug Easton, Chief Compton, and many, many more.
One of the largest collections of broadheads in existence - Over
2000 different broadheads manufactured since the first commercially
made broadhead in 1879 (including one of the very few examples ever
found of that first broadhead, the 1879 Peck & Snyder).
Archery & Bowhunting Books dating as far back as the 1600’s,
including the only known autographed copy of the classic “The
Witchery of Archery” (1878) by Maurice Thompson. Autographed
first editions from Saxton Pope, Fred Bear, Howard Hill, and more…..
Longbows from Merry Old England that helped launch archery in America
(dating back over 150 years).
Classic Recurves, including the rarest of all Bear Archery Company
bows, the gold-latched “A” Riser (one of only 12 made).
And much more……….

INDIANA HUNTER EDUCATION
Indiana Hunter Education is a program administered by the Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division, Outdoor Education Section. The program is offered free of charge in all 92 of Indiana’s counties and is taught my volunteer instructors and Indiana Conservation Officers. It teaches hunting safety, firearms and archery safety, ethics and responsibility, habitat fundamentals, wildlife identification and much more. The Indiana Hunter Education Association is made up of Hunter Education instructors. The association’s sole mission is to support the Department of Natural Resources in the delivery of the Hunter Education program. They work hand in hand with the department to provide the public with information about the program.
At the Deer, Turkey and Waterfowl Expo we will be offering several ways to interest people in hunting and hunter education. Our most popular attraction is the Laser Shot simulated shooting system. Participants will have the opportunity to go hunting with us and shoot deer with a laser gun in realistic shooting scenarios. We will also have an interactive display of pelts from many of Indiana’s furbearers. Experienced hunters and trappers will be on hand to answer questions about furbearing wildlife in Indiana. We will also offer information about upcoming Hunter Education classes, the Indiana Archery in the Schools Program and state tournament, 4H Shooting Sports, Becoming an Outdoors Woman, the Karl E Kelley Memorial Conservation Officers Youth Camp and the C O Mollenhour Conservation Camp.
Join us at the Indiana Hunter Education booth!! Booth numbers 249, 250, 251 & 325
3D BOWHUNTER CHALLENGE
Practice makes perfect, and the Bowhunter Challenge is the perfect
way to practice. Take your best shot at pop-up and moving 3-D targets
of deer and other game animals. The shooter stands in an elevated
tree stand and a new target pops up at random every 15 seconds.
The system is an educational, competitive and "real woods"
bowhunting practice system that simulates a real bowhunting experience.
INDOOR ARCHERY RANGE
The
indoor archery range offer an excellent opportunity to test that
new bow. You can also have your children instructed on bow safety
and proper shooting techniques by the professional staff of the
Indiana Bow Hunters Association.
LEGENDS OF INDIANA
Don't
pass the buck! This won't be a problem, seeing as how these are
the largest deer recorded in the Hoosier state.
Whether you're an avid hunter or just respect the sport, chances
are you've never seen anything like this before.
